Blossom Nursery Food Menu

We believe that healthy eating helps grow young, strong minds

Our Healthy Bites menu is balanced to ensure all Blossom’s nursery children receive enough nutrients throughout the day to keep them engaged and ready to learn! Our homemade recipes use fresh, UAE local ingredients, have minimal salt and sugar and no fried foods.

During meal times, teachers encourage children to eat together which helps them to develop healthy dietary habits and understand the practice of good eating. We teach children about the balance of health and the food pyramid, we serve Skyjuice (a.k.a. filtered water) and even have our own cooking classes where children make cupcakes, fruit kebabs, mini pizzas and orange juice. Children pick produce fresh from our very own Blossom gardens to use in our Mini Chefs cooking classes and learn the importance of caring for our environment along the way.

Is your child a picky eater? Don’t worry- our recipes delight even the pickiest of eaters and we are happy to share them with our families so that children have balanced meals both and home and at Blossom! Take a look at our food menu here – Blossom Nursery Food Menu 2015-2016-2

At Blossom nurseries we take great care in preparing only the best meals for your little ones. All food is served fresh to our children and we do not freeze and thaw. This means freshly produced such as fish comes in on the day of preparation. We reduce waste as much as possible and change our menu on a regular basis. “Meatless Mondays” are introduced to lessen the meat consumption and we cater to children with different dietary needs and allergies. We are a nut- and peanut free nursery.

The use of salt and sugar is very limited and we promote a healthy choice in foods by offering products such as brown rice, barley and lots of vegetables. Our portion sizes are measured by a nutritionist, children can always ask for seconds!

Blossom offers this healthy hot meal program to all our nursery children and educates children with an ECO approach in mind on the importance of healthy eating. This is seen very clearly through our ethos “believe, achieve, bECOme. Mini Chef was introduced into our after school Skillplay Program for two main reasons:

Healthy Eating at BlossomThe first one is to educate children so they know where their food comes from, the hard work that goes into making it and the importance of healthy eating. Mini Chef takes a good look at food from all angles and allows children to actively contribute to their own dietary needs. The process of cooking also covers all of the 7 strands of learning, some of these include Communication and Language: children discussing the food they are using, listening to instructions and information and following recipes. Maths: which includes weighing/counting/measuring the foodstuffs and using the clock to gauge the length of time needed to cook. Understanding of the World: using and preparing different cultures’ recipes from around the world, discussing and finding out where the food comes from and the differences and similarities to the food they eat.

The other reason little chef activities are so important is for our Sustainability program – the ability or capacity of something to be maintained or to sustain itself. Taking what we need to live now, without jeopardising the potential for people in the future to meet their needs. If an activity is said to be sustainable, it should be able to continue forever. Mini Chef uses the method of Wonderbag cooking. It’s a simple but revolutionary non-electric heat-retention cooker. It continues to cook food that has been brought to the boil by conventional methods for up to 12 hours without the use of additional fuel. Cooking in The Wonderbag keeps the moisture inside your food and nutrients don’t boil away promoting healthy food and uses less water. The Wonderbag is GOODNESS IN A BAG and also good to the environment and most importantly SAFE.
